THE EDITORS of Asian America: Journal of Culture and the Arts at UC Santa Barbara either missed, or intentionally omitted, an article "the" in my title because they found it repetitive. No big deal, if you're in the company of these Asian-American writers. From the introduction: "Even within Asian Pacific American literature and film, a heated debate between artists, scholars and critics is centered around the notion of whether artists ought to shoulder responsibility for accurate and positive representation, and whether the canon of this literature excludes work whose content has been deemed too sympathetic to mainstream prejudices."
